(no subject)
Aug. 22nd, 2004 09:00 pmToday, I went to see The Village. Normally I don't watch movies where the whole point is to be frightened. This seemed... a bit other than that, though I still nearly jumped out of my skin at one point and spent a later chunk of it tense even though I'd encountered (apparently pretty thorough) spoilers already and at that point the movie had given information indicating that what you were seeing wasn't what it appeared to be.
Was that spoiler-free enough? I really liked this, actually, though I don't know how effective it would be if you want a scary movie and are used to them. It felt more like a science fiction story to me. And parts of it don't stand up to detailed scrutiny, though none of those portions ruined my enjoyment while the movie was going on. But it was more atmospheric than frightening, even for a wuss like me.
( Some spoilers - not the most major ones, but still, you're warned. )
Meh... I'm not sure who's seen it, I don't know if anybody wants the full spoilery discourse, and I'm not sure I feel like writing one anyway. I got to discuss it after watching it, so for once I'm not all full of unexpressed opinions. I'll probably foist an entry upon you all later whether you want it or not, though.
