Definition: A "song call," as I use the term, is when you load up a bunch of music on Winamp, set the skin selection to "random skin on play," set the playlist to shuffle, and start the music. You then observe what skins come up for what songs; sometimes this can aid you in titling a half-finished skin, sometimes it's just... peculiar.
Like when "Losing My Religion" brings up a Yuna skin!
Vaguely connected, I suppose - NYT article about the teaching of evolution in schools, or the non-teaching, really.
I don't see how this is news. I've seen liberal blogs behaving like this has something to do with Bush being president, which is proof that they are nuts. ( Back in my day, they... actually, it was exactly the same on this one count, except Clinton was president. )
Texas kids actually had more sex after abstinence-only programs. Mind you, I don't really want teenagers to have sex either - *I* didn't get to have sex when I was in high school, so why should they? - but I have an abiding grudge against abstinence-only sex education that trumps all else. Dude, YOU sit through a video in which Kirk Cameron and Chelsea Noble tell you to wait until marriage, and see how you feel.
Best names recently - "Viridiana," a Hispanic-surnamed lady - I actually think it's a really cool name, in the same sense that I think "Benedict" is a cool name, as in, it would be cool in a book - and "Dacquiri," who is, sadly, not related to the woman named "Tequila." As far as I know.
Went to Borders to console myself for the busy day at work. The Princess Tutu manga is out, but it doesn't look as cool as the anime, really. It's also produced a bit weirdly - I think it may beViz's ADV's (Viz - seriously, was I high?) first manga title, or one of their first, and it looks like a scanlation. They left in all kinds of Japanese text - not just sound effects and things covering artwork, but narration and stuff too. I know this is probably orgasmic news for some fans, but to me it just looks cluttered. I'll hold out for the DVDs. I ended up getting Fruits Basket volume 7 - in a pulse-pounding shopping scene, Tohru gets a new bathing suit! I'm not mocking, that's the kind of thing I write as fanfic. They're past the stuff they included in the anime. Also got Suikoden volume 5, which is going to call for its very own entry.
