Bah. I went to Suikosource, looking for an April Fool's prank I could dissect. Nada. Went to RPGamer, and damn their worthless hides, they had news about a .hack// Another Birth game, which I wish were real though it's obviously not - all the media consists of images that've been on the Cyberconnect site, promoting the Another Birth... novel? manga? at least since December, when I saved three to my hard drive. As I doubt I'll ever see a .hack novel, I wish it were a game, since that'd get translated. But there's no point to doing a game of Another Birth, since it's a retelling of the game events, possibly for people who ditched the games out of entirely justified loathing for virus core collection. Or for hopeless, strung-out addicts like myself.

They ought to throw in some real news on 4/1 to throw people off and make them more gullible. Though if you ignore the story about Hironobu Sakaguchi becoming president of Squeenix (...yeah...) they did well this year - one of the others was yet another FF7 game. Since at this point we'd all believe just about any more whoring of the series they could think up (dating sim with all the girls! Dating sim with all the guys! FF7 solitaire! Or mah-jong! Raise Tifa to adulthood in an uncomfortably voyeuristic but fiendishly addictive life sim! The truck/motorcycle game gets an independent release!), and since Bandai has hardly under-marketed .hack, they were well within the realm of plausibility.

...Bah! Just realized something. I got an Animenation mailing earlier claiming, among other anime news, that Samurai Champloo had been announced for Cartoon Network, and I was all happy because CN broadcast is always, always faster than waiting for DVDs to be released. Now I wonder if it might have been just one more hoax. Blargh.

Yes, I'd watch Champloo on CN. I stuck with subtitles when I rented the first volume, because it's set in Japan, however weird-ass a fantasy Japan it may be. I haven't really given the dub a listen of more than a few lines at a stretch, but it didn't hurt me, and I kind of thought Mugen might have been voiced by the guy who did Spike, though maybe the hair confused me. But whether the dub's good or merely adequate, it'd be worth it to see the series faster than I'd manage with the DVD release. I will not watch Fullmetal Alchemist on CN, because the dub was like burning, and so I'm waiting eternally for the DVDs.

Lord, we are so spoiled anymore. Five years ago I thought the Utena dub was adequate. Watchable in the absence of a subbed version, at least. The FMA dub's probably better than Utena's, and I turn off the TV when I see it.

Looks like I also missed Merc's fake elopement because I never log in. Then I did, so I could see what I'd missed, and opted to change my LJ layout while I was at it, for the benefit of whatever silent lurkers I may have. I know there have to be some because I get the occasional site hit from my LJ front page, but no clue how many of you there may be, or who you are.

This is entirely self-indulgent, but when has that ever stopped me? A listing of anime series I've viewed and which version I preferred.

The list, in no real order )

The Samurai Champloo Cartoon Network broadcast thing was for real, though - the announcement's dated 3/31 though I got it on the first - so I'm happy now.
