more Genji crack-plot

A little over halfway through The Tale of Genji. It's not getting any less demented. I posted a partial plot summary a while back, but I glossed quite a bit there...

Okay, this got a lot longer than I meant it to, and I'm still not caught up to the point where I last discussed plot, let alone to the point where I'm currently stopped. Couple things: most of these people are related, and by the next generation it's even worse - within a couple of chapters Genji's son Yugiri will be in love with one first cousin, best friends with another, and that cousin will be pining for one of Yugiri's (and Murasaki's!) cousins, who is married to Genji even though she's his half-niece. And cuddling a cat because it reminds him of her. It gets a little weird. Also, the thing I mentioned in the last entry on the subject, about Genji checking out the father of one of his women and thinking "if he were female I'd do him" - that was Murasaki's father.
I actually like it for reasons other than the crack, but that's certainly a draw too.
