the overdue "hello world" post

Hello to all the new folks!
I just go by Liri, nickname for Lirillith, which is a name I snagged from a long-ago comic book series (Poison Elves) and now could not shed if I tried. I actually answer to it in real life, as we've confirmed at anime conventions. I hail originally from Oklahoma, and like many socially liberal people from the Bible Belt I will periodically be thrown into despair if something local hits the national radar, because usually it'll be a book-banning or something similar. I now live in LA with my husband, our housemate, and four cats. I recently finished all the coursework for my MLIS, though I don't get my degree until May.
My husband has legendarily bad luck, primarily centering on cars and his physical health. Our housemate is a double for my brother - he and my brother actually share a birthdate and year, in addition to a sense of humor, though the housemate got all the hair for both of them. Both the husband and housemate are Techers, meaning they went to Caltech and so they share the secret language and system of subcultural touchstones that are known only to Caltech alumni. I sometimes call it "the cult." We're all nerds, primarily gamers, though I got back into anime this year with a vengeance. I don't watch American TV because if I so much as think about enjoying a show it gets canceled.
I post primarily about the games I'm playing (at the moment, World of Warcraft and FFIV DS) and anime I'm watching. I read a lot during breaks from school but seldom post in-depth about books, though I do sometimes post about manga. Real-life stuff makes it in if it's funny, horrifying (like this weekend was!) or taking up a lot of brain-space in some other way.
