Tiger & Bunny episode 21, aka AIEEEE.

We re-establish that Kotetsu's a wanted criminal. His phone fails to work, presumably Maverick's doing. Translators apparently didn't bother to subtitle all of the line of someone talking to Maverick about Kotetsu's personal data, but I'm assuming that's been wiped at Maverick's behest.

Kotetsu calls Agnes from a phone booth, wanting to know if this is a special event for Hero TV or something. Okay, THIS should be an adventure - they don't bother to sub most of her lines either, but she's clearly not recognizing him and calling the heroes on him. The phone booth blows up - Sky High has cornered him. He escapes, and wonders what's going on. His wrist-phone has a "no connection" message I didn't see clearly.

Grandma Kaburagi calls Kotetsu's cell and gets a "not in service" message. Kaede, hugging Tomoe's photo, says her father's a liar and he's silly but he'd never kill anyone. She bursts into tears and hugs her grandmother, who decides it's time to tell her about the hero-ing. I'm choosing to read Kaede's reaction as "all the pieces fit together" rather than "no way!" because I think she's reasonably intelligent, but she's definitely surprised too.

Yuri sips coffee as people run around shouting about Kotetsu and the lack of info on him, then goes over to his computer and checks for himself. When he gets no record match, he checks his hero records on his cell and gets "access denied" for Wild Tiger. OMG YURI ARE YOU GOING TO BE AS AWESOME AS I WANT YOU TO BE? BE AWESOME NOW YURI.

Kotetsu hides in an alley where he sees a wanted poster of himself. Dragon Kid shadowboxes and then WTF Origami sticks his head out of the wall. WHAT.  Since when does he have Edward's powers?  Seriously, wtf. The two corner him. That Lin/Lin 'shipper thing may have something to it. It looks like Origami may have shapeshifted into the wanted poster? Since when can he even do that? I mean, it... looked like Kotetsu... but there's no precedent for him turning into a poster, or any other human likeness. Kotetsu tries to reason with them, they try to arrest him - it reminds me of some of my conversations with the husband. Then Rock Bison crashes into the scene. Maybe this will help clear it up for Kotetsu, if Antonio treats him like a stranger? After Antonio hits him, he finally powers up and runs for it.

They seem to be failing to sub the TV voiceovers and voices coming over phones, for whatever reason. Barnaby's watching TV at Maverick's place, and says he's ready to go out and make the arrest. Maverick says that new suits were being made for both him and Tiger, and that Barnaby's is ready. I don't know what to make of Barnaby's face at the mention of Tiger, but he does seem to have some reaction.

Kotetsu limps through a standard Absurdly Spacious Sewer, clutching his ribs where Antonio punched him. Blue Rose freezes the water. OH COME ON KARINA, you were my second- or third-best hope for Kotetsu! That's not actually that bad, I had a reasonable amount of faith in you! Kotetsu says "this one will be a pain in the neck." Indeed.

Kaede looks at hero memorabilia of Kotetsu, sees a quote about NEXT powers being used to protect loved ones, and flashes back to Kotetsu rescuing her. Muramasa has come over and asks how Kaede's taking it; the whole family are agreed that it's some misunderstanding. Then they find that she's smashed her piggybank. GO KAEDE, THAT'S MY GIRL! I knew she'd help in the rescue!

Kotetsu and Karina face off in another alley. Kotetsu, despite his rising frustration, keeps harping on the "You know me and I AM WILD TIGER DAMMIT" theme. You have to admire his determination. Karina says no one knows Wild Tiger's name or face. So that's how Maverick did it. Kotetsu has unwisely chosen to have this conversation in front of some bull's-eye graffiti. Kotetsu reminds her of the Towel of Love. He describes it as "really cool," because he's adorable but has no idea what cool actually means. He seems to be getting through to her, and she lowers her ice-gun, but then the wall behind him is knocked down, by.... Bunny's new suit. He seems to think it's a fake Wild Tiger, but the lights on it are red. Kotetsu, can you not even remember your OWN COLOR SCHEME?

But the (only-partly-subbed) announcer confirms that it's Wild Tiger. What? No, Kotetsu. It's a robot. Kotetsu attempts to flee, gets caught... the fake has not yet spoken. Nathan turns up and addresses the robot as Tiger. Nathan, it is THE WRONG COLOR. IT'S NOT EVEN HUMAN. Karina has apparently had the brainwashing confirmed by the fake Tiger, and it all starts to sink in for Kotetsu.

Then, LUNATIC. YURI, DO NOT LET ME DOWN. OMG YAY he helps Kotetsu escape. Then he levels his flame crossbow at the group. SHOOT THE ANDROID, NOT THE HEROES, YURI.

Kotetsu hides out in an alley, wearing a big poncho-like garment and a silly hat. An announcement that isn't translated says something about Barnaby; Kotetsu looks up, sees Barnaby on the screen, and is overjoyed to see that Bunny's safe. That SMILE of his. Oh Kotetsu. ♥  I hope you figure out the brainwashing before you have to fight him, or better yet, reverse it. I don't want Bunny breaking your heart like his just got broken. I want you to fix him back up, and then you two can get married.

Then something about Maverick is announced. Kotetsu starts putting the pieces together, THANK GOD, but as he stands frozen in the alley, onlookers start to recognize him. He dashes out into the street, past Scarf Girl, and of course, right in front of Ben's cab. Ben tells him to get in. As they drive, Ben stays silent, until I start to get a bit paranoid, and then so does Kotetsu. Ben tells him to calm down; he still has Wild Tiger trading cards in his cab. YAY BEN. He offers Kotetsu a hot dog, then gives him his old costume and mask. YAY!!!

Kaede, on the steps of the office building in Stern Bild, has a phone full of missed calls from her grandma (and Uncle Muramasa.) Then OH SHIT IT'S MAVERICK RUN AWAY. She says she wants to meet Barnaby, thinking he may help her. DON'T TELL THEM WHO YOUR DAD IS KAEDE. Maverick says Barnaby's busy, ruffles her hair, and heads down the steps to his car, where Barnaby is waiting. WAIT. HE RUFFLED HER HAIR. ALL YOUR POWERS ARE BELONG TO KAEDE NOW, ASSHOLE!

Kotetsu and Ben talk about the situation, and Barnaby. Kotetsu pulls out the Pins of Destiny as he says Barnaby won't even remember him. Kotetsu isn't sure Maverick's the one behind the mind-wipes but knows it's a NEXT power at work. This kind of thing is why I maintain he's intelligent. He has a plan to make the other heroes remember he's Wild Tiger, and says he couldn't do it without Ben. Ben makes possibly the best O_o face I've ever seen.

Agnes, running impressively in heels, comes in to get exposition, while uttering her first subtitled lines of the episode. Kotetsu's on the roof of the Apollon Media Building, claiming to be the real Wild Tiger and asking all the heroes to come meet him. The heroes all get impressively dropped from a helicopter for said meeting. Kotetsu poses goofily dramatically in his original costume. And says it's time to let out a wild roar. You're going to end the episode on Kotetsu making no sense? Really? Closing music.

Kaede sits alone in the Apollon lobby as Kotetsu's meeting is broadcast. Barnaby, looking about as haggard and depressed as you'd expect, gets suited up while Fake Tiger waits.

Preview: Kotetsu always reads the ads first in the newspaper. Stern Bild still has newspapers? The preview is unhelpful, but implies Kaede being taken hostage. Hopefully it'll be in such a way that she can mind-whammy someone back to sanity.  That'd mean someone without powers, so I don't know.

I love this show.
