I am actually signed up for Yuletide! Regrettably, I don't think I'll finish FF4 DS in time to edit my signups... I suppose I could just throw FF4 in there anyway, on faith that I *will* be able to finish it before stories are due, but I dunno. At the rate I'm progressing, I'm not sure it's safe to assume that I can.
Because I am right now at the Sealed Cave, aka "the cave with all the MOTHERFUCKING DOORS," aka "once again Kain gets possessed and takes off with a plot point," and I cannot get THROUGH the cave to even worry about remembering to strip Kain naked, because there are enemies in there - chimerae, I think, I don't really know because when I see them I go temporarily blind with impotent fury and push the run-away buttons so hard my hands cramp - who travel in pairs and like to cast a spell that can kill my whole party in two hits.
So I'm not really sure it's safe to say I can beat the game. I might physically beat the game, like with a hammer, but that won't help with writing fic.
OTHERWISE I'm enjoying the DS version; the story's all the same, it's just got voice-acting (meh) and improved graphics - so you can have more than one camera angle in a scene, for instance. And I like the addition of thought-bubbles for whatever character you have in the lead, so much that I tend to cycle through them to get everyone's opinion of events. Rydia, in particular: "So Yang survived! I wonder if Edward survived?" And then you go to Eblan and she's all "Eblan has a prince. I wonder if he's anything like Edward?" And then you meet Edge, and she thinks "He is NOTHING LIKE EDWARD." Well, someone's remembered Edward fondly for many years... (If I remember rightly, Edge's name is also Edward, which makes this funnier. It's short for Edward Geraldine.)
Unfortunately I neglected to take her to see him (I doubt there would have been an event, but I would have liked to see) and now we're trapped in the underworld for a while. Possibly forever, if the cave has its way.
Having played this, I'm now much more understanding of the desire for an FF6 remake along these lines.
Anyway. It's kind of neat to look at the Yuletide signups, if also puzzling - wth, other people want to write fanfic about a Vocaloid song? Really? I'm also surprised so many people are offering to write FF6 fic, so far. T&B is, unsurprisingly, the most popular of the ones I'm concerned with, both in offers and requests. Suiko III is weirdly kind of low, so far - weird because going by the number of nominated characters, at least three people nominated it, which is more than have requested or offered it. Madoka Magica only looked to have one request.
After spending some time kvetching about the good old Pit on f_fa, I decided, for reasons even I cannot fathom, to upload some fics over there again, and browse the areas where I was uploading. And... for some reason, the Pit's T&B section is basically just a porn-free version of AO3's T&B section, and I proceeded to get reviews that contained complete sentences and urged me to continue the fic I was planning to continue! I like the T&B section now! The less said about the MadoMagi section the better, though.
