Can someone help me? I really, really need for Dragon Warrior VII to be turned into a living being so I can stab it a lot.

I mean, game bosses wipe the floor with me all the time, because I play for story - I think level-building is boring. I always stared at game reviews and so forth in blank incomprehension when they'd claim things like "FF6 is easy." Well not if you take the final boss at level 40, bud! So I'm used to getting my ass whupped. But it's especially galling when in the middle of a floor-wiping I think "yay, I just did 12 damage!"

So. Yeah. Dark sorcerors needed. Apply within.

I got the seventh volume of Twelve Kingdoms, though. I find it unsettling that Asano, who's back, has managed to start sounding a lot more like Sanosuke while he's also completely freaking insane. Same seiyuu - he just didn't sound very Sano-like in the voice until he started making comments about how the two people he's talking to might not really exist, or brandishing a gun and talking about destroying the world. Apparently he feels this can be accomplished with one revolver. Which may or may not have bullets. I guess as plans go it's no crazier than Sugimoto's.

It's nice, though, that they manage to make Suzu sound self-pitying and not terribly likable by means of nothing more than her presenting her own point of view. Sure, there's been an ocean of suck in her not-so-young-anymore life, but being persecuted just because she's a Kaikyaku isn't part of it - people treat her like anyone else as long as she speaks the language. And going from "sold as a servant in Meiji Japan" to "sold as a servant and now immortal" doesn't strike me as really the worst change you could make...

In other news, Youko and Keiki just gave me cause to understand why there's Youko/Keiki fic, which kind of distresses me because noooooo Youko/Rakushun 4EVA! But I may become more open-minded if it gets really obvious. Shoukei, meanwhile, retreats deeper and deeper into the Land of Seriously Needing a Bitchslap. The other bitchy thirteen-year-old in residence, the Queen of Kyou, won my blackened, evil little heart forever when she ordered her kirin to kneel down so she could smack him and then complained that she needed a shorter kirin, like Enki. It's all in how you choose to be bitchy. The queen of Sou... well, she actually looks old, which I rather like, because so far all the immortals they've presented have been young and good-looking. Kirin have a supernatural justification for that; monarchs don't.

I liked Suzu's total lack of fear and arguing that Asano's weapon couldn't be a gun - she came from a tiny, thatched-roof cottage in rural Japan in the 1920s. Guns would have existed, but she likely would only know military rifles; she'd have no reason to recognize or fear what he's carrying. And neither does anyone else, so his tendency to point the gun at people and expect them to back off is getting frustrated at every turn.

Rakushun's Magic Personality-Redeeming Powers are still in effect - he's opening Shoukei's eyes now. As he commented when she said she wasn't worried about him, "I seem to keep meeting people like you." Yes, but Youko wasn't a spoiled little bint! I guess Shoukei did need a tad bit more kindness than she'd been getting from various people who wanted to force her to understand the common people by living among them. Rakushun's willing to talk to her about laws and morals without launching immediately into "you're no better than anyone else, so go split some damn kindling." Seems to be working. Which is a relief. If she tried to kill Youko I'd really have to kick her ass.

The new icon is supposed to be Youko reflected in Keiki's eye, though I'm not sure how clear it is. I thought it looked nifty before I cropped and shrunk it, anyway. But perhaps I'm just enamored of eyes right now because my own exploded Friday - all puffy and allergy-riddled and nasty. Much like that weirdness I posted about earlier, only now, instead of an infection, I just have an addiction to eyedrops.

The subject line's from Patricia McKillip's Alphabet of Thorn, which I was going to post about until I decided this is long enough. Later, maybe.

...ahh! Volume 7 is out? Must harass video rental place until they order it.....

So, maybe I shouldn't have read the spoilers, seeing as I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but... nooo! Not Youko/Keiki. :( I share your distress. Unless it's like, ruler/kirin non-romantic bonding. That might actually be kinda neat.

It's just ruler/kirin bonding, really - it's actually quite sweet, it's the kindest thing Keiki's done or said since Youko took the throne. It's just that it's also kind of a Chris/Salome type of scene, and so now I can see why Youko/Keiki 'shippers feel that way. I just don't think Youko/Keiki is right. Fortunately, I think Youko and Keiki would agree. I just hope the series itself is with us on this.

I hope I didn't spoil it too much! There's still plot, though...

Ah, I see how that could be something that could be taken or intented several ways in the long run.

But I'm going to choose to be optimistic. Yay, ruler/kirin bonding PLUS the OTP survives for now. And more screen time for Rakushun. And Rentertainment says the DVD is due back tomorrow....Yay. ^_^

Given the previous queen, I have difficulty seeing the series go Youko/Keiki... it'd be overdoing it, you know? It almost seems too cliche for the series - early on, Youko went in a very different direction from your typical destined-schoolgirl-heroine-in-another-world. I mean, they deliberatly made her an unlikable person for a while there (as opposed to certain charcters, who are supposed to be likable but become @#$ annoying), which is a big departure from the standard formula. And also part of why I like the series.

I read the spoilers knowing what I was getting myself into, so don't blame yourself there. ^_~

Yeah, there's the deliberate subversion of cliches (the reason I kept watching until Youko developed her ass-kicker-hood) and goodness knows "fall for your handsome and really tall protector" is a massive cliche. The thing that I think would really rule it out, though, is the history with the last queen - I think because of that, it'd be kind of an abuse of power if Youko pursued Keiki (which she doesn't seem inclined to do anyway) and I think it'd definitely give Keiki pause, lots of pause, even if he had feelings for Youko.

But ruler/kirin bonding is a good thing! Especially in this case, because Keiki's not the easiest guy to bond with, and they're stuck with each other for all time.
