Another Serenity post

I went looking for box-office stuff. It came in SECOND, squee! But "Serenity moseys to tame start." OMGWTF, it came in SECOND, what do you assholes want, BLOOD? ::seethe::
- OH MY GOD WASH.
- Book too...
- BUT WASH! ::SOB::
- And after his death I spent the rest of the movie in a state of shock and terror. NONE of them were safe! I was half convinced Mal was going to come back from the broadcast to a room full of corpses, or pull off the broadcast only to get impaled. I certainly thought River was doomed, and don't think I've ever been so relieved as when the door opened to her holding the blade and axe. So kickass, but I still kind of wanted to hug her for surviving.
- I'd wanted full names for more of the characters, but not like this!
- ...an actual explanation for the Reavers, and it ties in with Alliance = evil in a way I hadn't expected at all.
- I hadn't expected to be so freaked out by what they did to the ship.
- I bought the comics just before and after seeing the movie but didn't have time to read them before (I didn't even get the first issue until after) but I can't bear to read them right now. And I WANT THE WASH COVER. ::weep:: (I think he was issue 3. I'd already bought Simon's cover at the time I found the alternate selection, and couldn't coerce my boyfriend into buying the duplicate. 'Cause he's evil.)
- I dispatched my mom and brother to see the movie opening weekend and now my brother has the DVDs borrowed. Yay!
- I'd never fully bought into Simon/Kaylee during the show - possibly because of that "Simon appears to be more in love with his sister" thing - so liking it this time around was a lovely surprise.
- The dinosaurs were still in the cockpit at the end. ::sniff::
-
flurf suggested Book might once have been an Operative - which I like, because after all, something basic like "he was once a cop or Alliance officer and became a Shepherd" doesn't really cover the refusal to talk about his past and the mystery built up around it. "High-up Alliance officer at Serenity Valley" could have worked had it come out while he was on the ship and so Mal and Zoe would know, but in the absence of a whole plot dedicated to it, I'm going with Operative.
- Can they bring back the TV series NOW?
- I guess it's good that they brought it to a satisfying conclusion in the event of a lack of sequels / revival. BUT I WANT IT BACK.
Other things that happened over the weekend included the acquisition of Anansi Boys, viewing of Mirrormask (so gorgeous - a bit more later) and watching of Advent Children (more on that in another post too, but seriously, SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE WOLF. Please!)
