Another Serenity post

I went looking for box-office stuff. It came in SECOND, squee! But "Serenity moseys to tame start." OMGWTF, it came in SECOND, what do you assholes want, BLOOD? ::seethe::
- OH MY GOD WASH.
- Book too...
- BUT WASH! ::SOB::
- And after his death I spent the rest of the movie in a state of shock and terror. NONE of them were safe! I was half convinced Mal was going to come back from the broadcast to a room full of corpses, or pull off the broadcast only to get impaled. I certainly thought River was doomed, and don't think I've ever been so relieved as when the door opened to her holding the blade and axe. So kickass, but I still kind of wanted to hug her for surviving.
- I'd wanted full names for more of the characters, but not like this!
- ...an actual explanation for the Reavers, and it ties in with Alliance = evil in a way I hadn't expected at all.
- I hadn't expected to be so freaked out by what they did to the ship.
- I bought the comics just before and after seeing the movie but didn't have time to read them before (I didn't even get the first issue until after) but I can't bear to read them right now. And I WANT THE WASH COVER. ::weep:: (I think he was issue 3. I'd already bought Simon's cover at the time I found the alternate selection, and couldn't coerce my boyfriend into buying the duplicate. 'Cause he's evil.)
- I dispatched my mom and brother to see the movie opening weekend and now my brother has the DVDs borrowed. Yay!
- I'd never fully bought into Simon/Kaylee during the show - possibly because of that "Simon appears to be more in love with his sister" thing - so liking it this time around was a lovely surprise.
- The dinosaurs were still in the cockpit at the end. ::sniff::
-
flurf suggested Book might once have been an Operative - which I like, because after all, something basic like "he was once a cop or Alliance officer and became a Shepherd" doesn't really cover the refusal to talk about his past and the mystery built up around it. "High-up Alliance officer at Serenity Valley" could have worked had it come out while he was on the ship and so Mal and Zoe would know, but in the absence of a whole plot dedicated to it, I'm going with Operative.
- Can they bring back the TV series NOW?
- I guess it's good that they brought it to a satisfying conclusion in the event of a lack of sequels / revival. BUT I WANT IT BACK.
Other things that happened over the weekend included the acquisition of Anansi Boys, viewing of Mirrormask (so gorgeous - a bit more later) and watching of Advent Children (more on that in another post too, but seriously, SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE WOLF. Please!)

Date: 2005-10-05 05:11 am (UTC)The reaverization of Serenity severely creeped me out as well...
...Wash... ::sob::
(and, yeah. I was happy to hear it came in second -- is that really so bad?)

It makes a better show than movie. That said, GIVE ME MY SHOW BACK. *ahem*
And yes, Reaver-Serenity was quite high on creep factor, but the moment where all the reaver ships appeared en masse behind her as the operative's expression melted was totally worth it.

Book as an Operative would make sense. Except... he's got an identity card, and the Operative in the movie insisted he had no official existance or name because he was so hush-hush... Although he had security clearance, which means there was some sort of record of him. Hmm.
In the show, I never once got the impression that Simon had anything but brotherly feelings for River, but given that you did, there's a deleted scene on the last DVD, from Our Mrs. Reynolds, that I expect you'll find doubly amusing.
