Day 19 – Best Final Fantasy outfit.

This one's actually more of a toss-up.  Terra's in the running, of course.  I enjoyed a lot of FFX-2 outfits for the way they put an individual spin on a classic design (Yuna as a white mage looks different from Paine as a white mage) but I don't have a favorite off the top of my head.  Yuna's design in the original FFX is excellent, and I don't say that readily for Nomura designs.  The classic Black Mage and White Mage going back to the first FF, just because they're iconic?  Balthier, because he's hot and his outfit suits him?

I'm going with Terra's outfit: It's elegant, it's colorful, it echoes Kefka's design... It looks like something he could have picked out for her, which is really pretty creepy, but also makes a lot of sense.  There's an outfit she wears somewhere else - I want to say it's on a soundtrack cover, but Google's not backing me up here - that has similiar colors, lots of red and pink, but is clearly a different dress, with loose, diaphonous sleeves, though you can only see her from the waist up.  I like to think that dress is one she picked out for herself, so the iconic look is still present but she's not wearing a dress Kefka chose.  Oh, here it is!

Day 20 – Best Final Fantasy hair.

....Yes, this meme is clearly for people who mostly play the crazy-ass-designs new games.  If only Terra's green hair were fully canonical...  But I'm actually going to break from tradition here and say Penelo from FF12.  Her braids may bend physics a tad, but they're cute, they're different from other ladies in the series, and they make a decent amount of sense for someone who's running around doing the stuff she's doing.  I'll give Ashe a runner-up here, for similar reasons - short hair is practical!

Can I do a worst FF hair?  So Tifa, who's running around doing martial arts with hair down past her ass and LONGER THAN HER DAMN SKIRT IN WHICH SHE DOES MARTIAL ARTS can get a mention?  I like her fine as a character, I write for her extensively, but sweet zombie Jesus, Nomura, have you NO shame?

Day 21 – Favourite Final Fantasy pairing/ship.

LOCKE X TERRA FOREVER AND EVER AMEN.

Like you really had to ask.

Much of this goes back to the beginning.  I imprinted on Terra, and after she runs for her life and gets knocked out, a stranger shows up, takes care of her, and promises to stay with her and help her ("I'll protect you" is said to Celes, not Terra.)  I didn't develop a crush on Locke for myself - I don't even really like him that much on his own - but I approved of him as the companion and apparent love interest ("That's not entirely true" when she says she doesn't have a significant other) for my favorite character.  I don't think Locke and Celes would work out very well as a couple; Locke has some indications of a sense of humor, but they're both very serious people and prone to brooding, and I think both of them would benefit from partners that don't take everything quite as seriously.  Terra definitely shows signs of a sense of humor, which could help temper Locke's penchant for angst.  I tend to think she's a homebody at heart, and for all that Locke apparently enjoys travel, he was also ready to marry Rachel years earlier.  He seems like he'd be happy to join Terra's family, and maybe his interest in travel would take her and the kids out of Mobliz from time to time, which would be good for all of them.

Mostly, though, I just like to believe they started falling in love really early in the game, when I started shipping them, and nothing in between swayed that.

Day 22 – Favourite Final Fantasy summon.

I'm ruling out the FF12 summons here, since I haven't seen them all and I don't dare check Youtube for them for fear of spoilers.  I like Ashura.  I enjoy healing and protective summons, and the random element to Ashura is neat.  I'm also fond of the Mist Dragon on a story level.  Ragnarok's effect as a summon is unique, to the best of my knowledge, but I typically turn him into a sword instead.  I haven't managed to obtain all the new Espers for FF6A yet, so I can't speak to those.  FF7's Kujata gets points from me for not being one of the fixture summons, as does Hades.  I love Alexander wherever he appears, because he originated in FF6, and I grudgingly give FF8 a few points for including a summon derived from FF6's ghost train.  FFIX's Ark is pretty damn impressive, but since I never got it myself, I'm not sure if I should let it in the running.  FFIX's Carbuncle is adorable!  FFX's Magus Sisters get points just for being an FF4 reference, though again, I never got them myself.

I also like the fixture summons, and got irked when FFX bypassed Ramuh.  I liked the way FFX's summons in general interacted with Yuna, though.  FFX's summons also have some excellent designs, as they should in a game where summoning is such a plot point.  I had to refresh my memory with Youtube; from that, I can say that I love all the summoning sequences, especially Yojimbo's, Shiva's, and Ifrit's, Bahamut's possibly at his coolest here, and Shiva has the best design she's had in the whole series in that game.

So I guess I'm going with FFX's Shiva as my specific favorite, and Alexander as my favorite across the whole series.

Day 23 – Least Favourite Final Fantasy mini game.

Errrr.  FF8's card game, since I dislike most things about that game and would probably dislike the card game too?  I just ignore the mini-games if I don't like them.  This seems like a poorly-chosen question for a meme that doesn't even include "best villain" or "favorite weapon."  Then again, a "best villain" question really has only one answer, so I guess I can understand leaving it out.
As an addendum to my YA Lit rant - might I point out that two of the books singled out as "omg so dark and awful" in the WSJ article were a (presumably) urban-fantasy novel, and another one that sounds like horror?  Dark, scary, gory content is, you know, kind of a feature of horror fiction.  Which has been a YA genre for quite a while, as all those Christopher Pike books I read in middle school can attest.
