liri: (Tiger & Bunny)

I got my hopes all up because Hulu appeared to have added the Iron Man and Wolverine anime to their slate.  This would have been a mixed bag: I detest comics-continuity Wolverine, but it could also be magnificently awful - but alas, all Hulu has is clips.  I suppose I could watch those, but meh.

Anyway, time for NEW TIGER & BUNNY.

The TV announcers clarify that everyone recognizes Wild Tiger's previous costume.  Lloyds and his awesome secretary (look, the lady's got an afro and cat's-eye glasses, do I need more reason to approve of her?) grouse about this happening on their building, and the security guard gives the evacuation order.  Kotetsu postures a bit, then powers up.

Barnaby says he wants to go in, but Maverick tells him to wait.  Ben watches along on TV at home.  Kotetsu's plan evidently involves grunting and straining like a DBZ character, then giving two thumbs up.  Wow, Kotetsu.  He begins harping, again, on "I'm the original Wild Tiger!"  He also looks like he's about the size of a refrigerator.  Is that deliberate?  Ben shares my disbelief that this was "the plan."  The heroes go after him for a bit, but inexplicably stop when he asks so he can remind Dragon Kid of babysitting the Mayor's son.  Keith apparently likes to suck the yolks out of fried eggs in a very strange fashion, and Fire Emblem shaves his body hair three times a day.

Dragon Kid concludes he's a stalker, and they all square off AGAIN, but Blue Rose begins to have doubts that he's a murderer, on account of his very strange strategy for arguing that he's not.  I think this is logical.  He's not saying "you've got the wrong guy," he's saying "I'm this superhero even though you insist I'm not."  He powers down, and... okay, he just bloats up like a Liefeld character when he's powered up.  Keith finally grabs his arm, but Kaede makes her appearance and yells that her dad didn't kill anyone.  She gets extremely upset, and OH YES sends out a giant ball of MAVERICK-POWER into the air so that explains how she'll de-brainwash them all at once!  It jams the TV signal, everybody suddenly wonders why they were trying to arrest Tiger, and he's just so happy they remember him again that I really, really need to obtain a Kotetsu plushie to hug.

Then Kaede calls him on the carpet for not telling her he was a hero.  ILU KAEDE!!!  He apologizes for lying to her, she hmmphs a bit, and he asks about the power.  She tells him about her run-in with Maverick.  YES NOW DEPROGRAM BARNABY AND DEFEAT THE ROBOT.   Kotetsu explains things to all of them.  Darling Keith says "If only I had realized it when you started talking about eggs..." Man, I just adore all these characters.  I would seriously keep watching forever for an American-comics style "they keep being superheroes with no plot structure or closure or definite end to any storylines ever" thing, even though that's exactly what turned me off of American superhero comics.  Because any one of these characters has nail clippings more lovable than an entire lineup of X-Men.  (Except for Nightcrawler.  And Kitty Pryde.  THOSE TWO CAN COME TO STERN BILD.)

Kotetsu thanks Karina for believing him before Kaede did her thing, and she blushes, then he complains at Antonio for being really zealous about treating him like a criminal.  At Antonio's flustered change of subject, he introduces Kaede to everyone.  Geez, Pao-lin is barely any taller than she is, how old is she supposed to be?  Keith touches her shoulder, but if the Rogue Rule applies she should still have Maverick's powers.  If she knows how to use them... Barnaby (and/or Robot) attacks!  It's Barnaby, in his new suit.  He declares he'll never forgive Kotetsu for killing Aunt Samantha.

Kotetsu asks Kaede to do what she did before.  She powers up.... and starts flying, because of Keith.  So no Rogue setup here (i.e. skin-to-skin contact required.)  Kotetsu pulls her back down to earth and grouses at Keith about it.  Barnaby attacks, but Antonio blocks him.  I knew he was a tank at heart.  Everyone tries to talk sense into Barnaby, who's basically in berserker-rage mode at the moment.  I am having a very Marvel day, it seems.  Kotetsu asks Antonio to take care of Kaede if anything happens to him, and prepares to take Barnaby on and BEAT THE MEMORIES OF THEIR LOVE INTO HIS HEAD.

By jumping off a roof!  Oh, right, he'll be trying to get the fight away from Kaede, and probably away from populated areas.  As Kaede tries to run after him, it's Blue Rose and Dragon Kid, interestingly, that stop her, then Antonio reassures her that her dad's a hero.  Aha, Kotetsu kicks through a window and goes in after his Apollon suit.  He meets Saito, begins stammering about how he's no one suspicious, and Saito just wants to know why he went on TV wearing his old suit.  Oho!   Saito wasn't at the Meeting of Brainwash?  No, Tiger figures it was because he was watching the broadcast, and hugs him.

He's waiting on his motorcycle for Barnaby.  On a freeway (you'd think there'd be less traffic with a massive alert like this...) Barnaby tries to grind him into a barrier; Kotetsu transforms his bike into a sidecar and hooks up to Barnaby's bike.  Barnaby tries to strangle him.  Barnaby's doing his damnedest to make it into a fight, while Kotetsu does his damnedest to avoid it.  Scarf-girl in a taxi!  She finally gets a voice, screaming as the cab spins out.  She and the cab driver then comment "Tiger..." "and Barnaby!"  As the duo come up on a big tanker, Kotetsu splits his bike off and goes under the truck while Barnaby goes over, then he takes off and Barnaby gives chase.  Kotetsu leads them to a peaceful marina area, where he reminds Barnaby of their first meeting, and the princess carry.

Blue Rose reassures a worried Kaede that it will be fine.  Then robot!Tiger looms up ominously behind the heroes.  Barnaby keeps trying to kick Kotetsu as they ride their bikes, but when Kotetsu successfully (but maybe accidentally) hits Barnaby, that just enrages Barnaby.  Keith jumps on robot!Tiger's head, demands the imposter reveal himself, and tries to yank the mask up.  Everyone gasps. AS CIRCUITS ARE REVEALED.

Kotetsu and Barnaby reach a bridge that pulls up to let a cruise ship through... so of course they're on opposite sides of the split, of course they both ride their bikes up and off and prepare to fight in mid-air, and for good measure, Good Luck Mode kicks in.  SHINY FIGHT.

Shiny fight NEXT WEEK.  Also we have to wait another week before I know for sure if fake!Tiger is a robot!  Dammit!  But I know that eventually Barnaby will get deprogrammed, even if it takes Kotetsu hauling himself out of a hospital bed to visit Barnaby's hospital bed and say DAMMIT LOOK AT THESE CRHISTMAS TREE PINS.

Preview!  Kotetsu has a mole on the bottom of his foot!  I didn't know that was possible!  And I have a lot of moles!  No info to speak of out of the next-episode preview; Kotetsu/Barnaby brawling and shots of Maverick looking creepy (as if there's any other kind of shot of Maverick.)
Why does Hulu keep kicking me over to Blue Exorcist when I'm done with Tiger & Bunny?
