YA fiction revisited

I hadn't really had anything to add on the #yesGayYA thing, but I keep seeing people talk about buying books, voting with your wallet, etc.  I just wanted to pluck out one element of this that I think is getting lost (or I could just not be reading the right sources...)

On the third page of comments oncleolinda's post, she points out something that I haven't seen very prominently elsewhere, which was one of the first things I thought of as well: It still counts if you get the books from libraries.  Libraries track circulation numbers for many reasons, and they buy materials in response to both evident demand (i.e. circulation) and patron requests, though obviously there are budget constraints.  They also weed books that don't circulate, though weeding policies vary.  You can vote with your attention rather than  your wallet in this case.

I'd already heard about the #yestogayYA thing, but... how the heck did I miss that Sherwood Smith was one of the authors?

Thanks for pointing out that checking things out at the library helps, too. I generally don't check out books from the library that I already own, but... well, this is a small town, so I might as well boost the circulation numbers of a few classics. :)

I'm sure publishers are much more enthused about runaway hits like Hunger Games than they are about old standbys circulating in libraries, but you know, every bit helps, especially when it's a slow and incremental process like this.

You do? Yay! She rights a lot of good stuff, and her adult novels do have LGB characters in them (*insert standard "read her Inda quartet" plug*)

Library trip is being delayed (as is watching of Tiger and Bunny -- thanks for the link!), because my backordered Yoshinaga manga finally came from TRSI.
