still not dead
Aug. 23rd, 2005 11:06 pmWell, I'm assuming someone would have told me if
flurf had died in a fiery plane crash, so I feel confident in saying he's been safely shipped home. We survived Manos - I thought I'd never seen it all the way through, but on reflection, I think I had watched all of the movie once and my brain just blanked out the memories to protect me - and then he kept trying to come up with other things to do. I tried the Mr. B Natural short, but it didn't have the expected effect, so I made him watch Fugitive Alien through to the forklift song and finally, finally converted him. Thank God. If that hadn't worked I'd have had to resort to Deathstalker, and it's like halfway through the movie before the potato joke really kicks in.
I have to say I don't at all get why Manos is so loved. The MSTing is basically just stunned horror, and the movie is dire, not even cheesy; the best thing about it is the Entertainment Weekly article I read on the making of it, and the tidbit that the director/producer/guy-who-played-the-Master continued to dress up in his Manos robes at Halloween for years. (Yeah, they knew it was horrible. I always wonder...)

And, yes, he's emailed me, though he opted to do so around the time I left work so I didn't catch it then. (I mean
flurf, not the Master.)
I was supposed to spend this evening chasing down the source of the stray ten cents my bank thinks I have that I think I don't. Since that would have involved (a) being productive and (b) numbers, I didn't. Also still have no fresh manga, though I really, really need to post on recent developments in Fruits Basket (no more fear of it replicating the anime, and also, HOLY CRAP.)
